The Lord’s Prayer for 20s-30s (café-style)

1. My Friend: visual Lord’s Prayer

You will need: good speakers.

2. Lord’s Prayer cards

You will need: ten pieces of paper/card with each stanza of The Lord’s Prayer written or copied on each, a plate or basket containing a large bread roll, a candle or lantern, background music (optional).

  1. Our Father in heaven…
  2. Hallowed be your name…
  3. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven…
  4. Give us today our daily bread…
  5. Forgive us our sins…
  6. As we forgive those who sin against us…
  7. Lead us not into temptation…
  8. But deliver us from evil…
  9. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours…
  10. Now and for ever. Amen.

Put the bread and the lit candle or lantern in the centre of the group. If you are meeting after dark, turn out the room lights and pray by candlelight. Share out the Lord’s Prayer cards and pray together as follows: the first person reads the first line from the Lord’s Prayer, and everyone repeats it. The first person then takes a piece of bread from the roll. The second person waits for five seconds so that everyone can briefly reflect on the words or add a short prayer of their own before reading the next line, and so on.
