What is this and why is it helpful?
For those who are exploring the faith in any depth, we need to be nourished and hear God’s word speak to us – through the word read from Scripture and interpreted or proclaimed in a variety of ways. The word is to live within us to help and sustain us as we journey with God through life. Engaging with living Scripture is to search the Scriptures and allow the Scriptures to search us.
It is impossible to endorse a template for how we search and learn from the Scriptures as there are many, many ways, but one of the oldest forms is the simple act of storytelling. Engaging with a story helps us ‘to wonder’, to place ourselves in the story – eg, how would we react in the same circumstances? This allows God’s Holy Spirit to breathe on the words spoken to enable them to ‘live’ within us.
